IRGACARE®† MP-Coated Plus Sutures

IRGACARE® MP is a safe and effective
antimicrobial agent

Safety
The safety of IRGACARE® MP
  • IRGACARE® MP-coated sutures were found to be nontoxic, nonirritating, noncarcinogenic, and nonteratogenic (does not cause fetal malformation) in in vivo and in pre clinical studies1
  • Triclosan, the generic form of IRGACARE® MP, has been safely used in a wide variety of over-the-counter healthcare and consumer products for over 30 years1
IRGACARE® MP does not contribute to the antibiotic burden
  • IRGACARE® MP is an antiseptic and has no proven clinical connection with antibiotic resistance2,3
  • By inhibiting the growth of pathogenic bacteria most associated with SSIs, IRGACARE® MP addresses a risk factor associated with SSI2
The minimal environmental impact of IRGACARE® MP-coated Plus Sutures
  • The potential daily absorption of triclosan from common consumer products is estimated to be 29 times greater than that of the average exposure from triclosan in implanted Coated VICRYL* Plus Antibacterial (polyglactin 910) Suture in a typical case1
Comparison of daily triclosan absorption
  • IRGACARE® MP is rapidly metabolized, biodegraded, and excreted through feces and urine in a neutralized, inactive form, and therefore does not accumulate in the body1
  • Based on a conservative assessment of estimates from the United States Environmental Protection Agency, the average environmental exposure to IRGACARE® MP residue produced by Coated VICRYL Plus Sutures is extremely limited1
